Read a Data Table

A data table organizes observations into rows and columns. Suppose you water three plants with different amounts and record growth each week. Label each column with what you measured and its unit, such as height in centimeters.

Before drawing a conclusion, check whether the comparison is fair. Were the plants the same kind, in similar light, and measured on the same day? More than one difference makes a result harder to explain.

Look for a pattern, then say only what the data supports. If the tallest plant got medium water in one week, you can report that observation. You cannot yet claim that medium water is always best for every plant.
