Nouns, Verbs, and Adjectives

A noun is a naming word. It names a person, place, thing, or idea: teacher, playground, sandwich, happiness. If you can point at it or talk about it, the word for it is probably a noun.

A verb is a doing or being word. Run, jump, think, is, were - verbs tell what someone does or how something exists. Every sentence needs a verb; without one, nothing happens.

An adjective is a describing word. It makes nouns more interesting: the BIG dog, the RED ball, the sticky honey. Try it yourself - take a plain sentence like "the cat sat" and add adjectives until the cat is a fluffy, sleepy, enormous cat sitting in a warm, sunny window.
